Dr. Heather

Dr. Heather Edwards (FRCSC, MD, PH.D., B.Ed., M.Sc., B.Sc.H)

With a track record of delivering 20,000 babies and performing over 10,000 complicated surgeries, Dr. Edwards has established herself as one of the most accomplished OBGYN’s in the medical field.

After completing her undergraduate degrees (Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education) she went on to receive her Master of Science in the field of Reproductive Physiology, at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario.

Honouring her M.D., and  Ph.D. in the Department of Physiology at the University of Toronto, she pursued a postdoctoral 2-year fellowship at the same institution in the field of Neuroendocrinology.

After moving out West to Calgary, Alberta, she completed her 5-year speciality residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with extra resident training in the field of Urogynecology. She was promoted as an Associate Professor at the University of Calgary wherein she released several award-winning Publications. She served as part of the Surgical Staff at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary for close to two decades, as a high-risk Obstetrician and Gynecologist with a speciality focus on Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Surgery.

Dr. Edwards is now back to Ontario and practices as a speciality Surgeon out of the Southlake Regional Hospital in Newmarket. She is an advocate focused on advancing Women’s Health and specializes in offering comprehensive care encompassing Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Refractory Menorrhagia, Ovarian & Uterine Masses, High & Low-Risk Obstetrics, Urogynecology, Pelvic Floor Surgery, Bladder Incontinence and Intimate Sexual Health Function.

Dr. Helen Yang MD, FRCSC

Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dr. Yang is a Fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, having completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alberta. She received her degree in Bachelor of Health Sciences at McMaster University, went on to pursue a Master's degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto, then completed her Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Ottawa. Dr. Yang has received a variety of academic honours and awards, including those from Women and Children’s Health Research Institute and the Duchesnay International Elective Fellowships. Her research interests include quality-based improvements of surgical instruments in healthcare. She is also interested in global women’s health and has completed several electives in Bangladesh, South Africa and Brazil. In the past year, she has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Southlake Regional Hospital in Newmarket and the Hamilton Health Sciences in Hamilton, Ontario. She is actively involved in medical education and clinical teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is passionate about women’s health in all aspects from providing preventative care and comprehensive obstetrical care, to helping women of all ages navigate through common gynecological issues. Dr. Yang is fluent in both English and Korean.

Dr. Jessica Dupont is a Naturopathic Doctor, Birth Doula, mother and plant-based foodie. Carly is a registered nurse at the Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket Ontario on the labour and delivery unit. Prior to that, she was in the Post-Partum unit at Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering and Peterborough Regional.She is a graduate from McMaster University in 2014 and has worked within the maternal and kids team. She has the comprehensive assessment skills to handle acutely ill children and adolescents, neonates and postpartum mother’s in a timely and effective manner. She is caring/compassionate/empathetic and has the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Dr. Wynne-Edwards has broad interests in endocrinology. A major focus of her research has been to understand the hormonal and neuroendocrine basis for parental behaviour, using an exceptional hamster model of fatherhood, as well as men. She is also increasingly interested in hormone dynamics within individuals and information coded in the magnitude of within-individual variability in hormone concentration.
